Laser-based direct metal deposition (DMD) is a solid freeform fabrication process capable of fabricating fully dense and metallurgically sound parts. The process has been greatly enhanced toward multi-directional deposition by the use of discontinuous radially symmetrical powder nozzles to supply the build material. Since many operational parameters depend on the gas–powder stream characteristics between the nozzles and the deposition point, an extensive understanding of the gas–powder flow is necessary. Three-dimensional (3D) multi-phase gas–powder flow structures of radially symmetrical nozzles are modeled using computational fluid dynamics methods. The obtained results are in good agreement with the experimental ones, and they provide a good insight into the process phenomena. 相似文献

Riverscape genetics of fish, though extensively studied in temperate regions, have received limited interest in tropical rivers, especially in montane systems which not only harbour several endemic and threatened species, but are also subjected to extensive habitat modifications. We determine the population genetic structure of two endemic balitorid loaches (Bhavania australis and Travancoria elongata) in response to natural (25 m high waterfall) and artificial (23 m high and 290 m long hydropower dam) barriers in a small mountain riverscape in the Western Ghats Hotspot. Population genetics analysis using mitochondrial cytochrome b gene sequence showed low nucleotide diversity, haplotype diversity and genetic differentiation among populations, for both species, suggesting that barriers did not influence genetic structuring. Though migration analysis also revealed that barriers did not affect movement of the two species through the riverscape, patterns in mutation-scaled immigration rates and population sizes differed between the two species supporting our observation that they rarely co-exist in the same habitat, likely as an effect of competitive exclusion. Mismatch distribution and Bayesian skyline plot suggested recent expansion in the populations of B. australis and corresponding population decline in T. elongata in the last 100 years, which probably explains the widespread and abundant distribution of B. australis as opposed to the narrow endemism and rarity of T. elongata. Our results provide novel insights into the ecology of balitorid loaches and their response to riverine barriers in a tropical mountain landscape. 相似文献

Ethylene‐propylene diene rubber (EPDM) and isotactic polypropylene (iPP) blends have widest industrial applications that require a degree of flame retardancy. Halogen‐free intumescent technology based on phosphorous salt is a significantly advanced approach to make the polymer flame‐retardant. Both ammonium polyphosphate and ethylenediamine phosphate are important intumescent compounds. Their combination with carbonific and spumific agents were studied in binary blends of EPDM/PP. The polymer system was vulcanized online during melt mixing. Intumescent flame‐retardant polymer systems exhibit good flame‐retardancy with optimum comparable physiomechanical, electrical, and fluid resistance properties, including lower smoke emission, which is essential to protect people because the visibility remains unaffected in the event of fire. Pronounced charring and intumescent effect appear to enhance the flame‐retardancy of the polymers. Possible expected intumescent mechanism is proposed based on the nonpyrolysis mechanism for the flame‐retarded polymer and the intumescent components. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The silicone rubber vulcanizate powder (SVP) obtained from silicone rubber by mechanical grinding exists in a highly aggregated state. The particle size distribution of SVP is broad, ranging from 2 µm to 110 µm with an average particle size of 33 µm. X‐ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy studies show that there is no chemical change on the rubber surface following mechanical grinding of the heat‐aged (200°C/10 days) silicone rubber vulcanizate. Addition of SVP in silicone rubber increases the Mooney viscosity, Mooney scorch time, shear viscosity and activation energy for viscous flow. Measurement of curing characteristics reveals that incorporation of SVP into the virgin silicone rubber causes an increase in minimum torque, but marginal decrease in maximum torque and rate constant of curing. However, the activation energy of curing shows an increasing trend with increasing loading of SVP. Expectedly, incorporation of SVP does not alter the glass‐rubber transition and cold crystallization temperatures of silicone rubber, as observed in the dynamic mechanical spectra. It is further observed that on incorporation of even a high loading of SVP (i.e., 60 phr), the tensile and tear strength of the silicone rubber are decreased by only about 20%, and modulus dropped by 15%, while the hardness, tension set and hysteresis loss undergo marginal changes and compression stress‐relaxation is not significantly changed. To obtain new polymeric materials for environmental management, we used pine needles from the huge forest of the Western Himalayas as a source of cellulose. Cellulose was derivatized to hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), a useful water‐soluble cellulose ether. HPC was graft‐copolymerized with acrylamide (AAm) with benzoyl peroxide as the initiator. At optimum grafting conditions, five different concentrations of the comonomers glycidyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, and acrylonitrile were grafted with AAm. Networks of HPC and AAm were also synthesized by crosslinking reactions with glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker over a range of four different concentrations of crosslinker under acidic conditions. Crosslinked networks of HPC with AAm and a comonomer at one comonomer concentration were also synthesized. Energy consumption is one of the important issues in wireless sensor network that rely on non chargeable batteries for power. Also, the sensor network has to maintain a desired sensing coverage area along with periodically sending of the sensed data to the base station. Therefore, coverage and the lifetime are the two important issues that need to be addressed. Effective deployment of wireless sensors is a major concern as the coverage and lifetime of any wireless sensor network depends on it. In this paper, we propose the design of a Probability Density Function (PDF) targeting the desired coverage, and energy efficient node deployment scheme. The suitability of the proposed PDF based node distribution to model the network architecture considered in this work has been analyzed. The PDF divides the deployment area into concentric coronas and provides a probability of occurrence of a node within any corona. Further, the performance of the proposed PDF is evaluated in terms of the coverage, the number of transmissions of packets and the lifetime of the network. The scheme is compared with the existing node deployment schemes based on various distributions. The percentage gain of the proposed PDF based node deployment is 32\(\%\) more than that when compared with the existing schemes. Thermal processing is the most widely adopted technology for preservation of juices; however, it is associated with significant changes in nutritional quality and flavor. Combination of nonthermal hurdles (ozone 1.2 g/h, 10 min, and lactic acid 0.5%) reduced total bacterial count of sugarcane juice by 4.3 log and controlled enzymatic activity to a moderate level (reduction of 60% and 72% activity of polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase, respectively). Combined treatment was comparable to thermal treatment in maintaining microbial and sensory quality of sugarcane juice during 1-month storage under refrigerated conditions; however, additional hurdles may be required for extended storage. 相似文献

Viability of a product or service in the market depends upon the satisfaction that it can extend to its customers through quality. Quality function deployment (QFD) is a tool that gathers voice of customer (VoC) and inducting the expected features in the final product. It is also desirable that the practitioners of QFD must extend due importance to latent expectations of the customers, which in turn may fulfill overall customer satisfaction for a product or service. Kano et al. (J Jpn Soc Qual Control, 14:39–48, 1984; 1996) and Kano (2001) have suggested a method to identify the different categories of requirements through customer responses. Based on the QFD and Kano model analysis, a function has been proposed to adjust the traditional improvement ratio (Tan and Shen, Total Qual Manag 11:1141–1151, 2000) for each product or service attribute to recognize the importance of a attribute, which can be helpful in developing a product or service in such a manner that maximum customer satisfaction can be achieved. This study examines the cross-lagged relationships between posttraumatic distress symptoms and physical functioning, using a sample of 413 persons who were hospitalized for injuries resulting from community violence. Posttraumatic distress was assessed at 1 week, 3 months, and 12 months postinjury, and posttraumatic physical functioning was assessed at 3 months and 12 months. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the prospective relationship between posttraumatic distress symptoms and physical functioning while controlling for demographic characteristics and objective measures of injury severity. Results indicate that posttraumatic distress and physical functioning are reciprocally related. Individuals with high levels of psychological distress at 1 week posttrauma have worse physical functioning at 3 months. Psychological distress at 3 months was not significantly associated with subsequent change in physical functioning at 12 months. Individuals with poor physical functioning at 3 months had higher than expected levels of psychological distress at 12 months. These findings demonstrate a reciprocal relationship between physical and mental health following traumatic injury. Interventions targeting physical recovery may influence subsequent mental health, and therapies aimed at improving early mental health may also have long-term benefits for physical recovery.
